Composite fillings that repair tooth structure.

tooth colored fillings

A new type of tooth colored filling, or dental composite filling material has been developed by Researchers at BioMin Technologies ,that helps repair teeth damaged by bacteria.  The new tooth filling material is made of a bioactive glass that releases of fluoride, calcium and phosphate, which are the building blocks of tooth structure.

Studies also show that the bioactive glass inhibits oral bacteria from infiltrating under the composite restoration by filling in the gaps with mineral. It also creates an alkaline environment that suppresses decay causing bacteria.

According to a dental health survey, the average American has three dental fillings, with a quarter of the population having 11 or more fillings. A material that can increase the lifespan of a restoration and strengthen teeth certainly is beneficial to the public.
